🤨 What the ?!?
Milo’s Queer Shop is designed and maintained solely by them. It’s a storefront to make their zines and other designed and scrounged pieces available outside of zinefest spaces. Their products are produced either in-house or by small local businesses, artisans and zinesters including:
- Milo (Milwaukee, WI)
- Portland Button Works (Portland, OR)
- Shaky Hands Print Co-op (Milwaukee, WI)
Some of the work available here is also available elsewhere, including at the Queer Zine Archive Project, other distros and bookstores like Lion’s Tooth (MKE) and Quimby’s (CHI).
🌎 Internationalism vs USPS:
In my heart of hearts, I really do believe that borders and nation states are stupid and mostly get in the way of us having a better world. Unfortunately, the United States Post Office doesn’t see it that way, and has made it unconscionably expensive to ship packages internationally. I think I’ve set the software up to only accept orders from U.S. residents, so hopefully this won’t be a problem. If you live in one of the other 194 countries on the planet that isn’t this one, please contact me before ordering so I can calculate an estimated shipping cost. It’s probably going to be a lot, jsyk.
📦 Payment and Shipping Info:
SO, I come from the old school of zine-making, forged in the suburban hells of Milwaukee in the very early 1990s. What does that mean? In this case, I’ve set up a webshop for easier access to my design work and zines, but I’m thinking of it as basically “please send well-concealed cash + two stamps.”
I’ll do my best to turn orders around in a couple of days, but I’m not an Etsy or Amazon seller for reasons, and part of this whole endeavor is to show that we don’t need big platforms or tech companies to get our ideas and artwork out into the world.
To ensure that you get things in a timely and reasonable manner, please make sure that you’re using the correct mailing address and an accurate and up-to-date email address that you check regularly, so if I need to communicate with you about your order I can.
Nothing sucks more than ordering stuff and having it not arrive because slippy fingers boofed a digit, right? So double check, my friend, so that all of these zines and things can be yours, too.
🛠️ Site Info:
In the same way that I want to shout out the awesome folks who help to make the stuff I’m selling, I also want to mention the tools that I used to make this:
The site itself is built using WordPress and hosted at Dreamhost. It’s not exciting, but it’s pretty easy.
I’m using WP EasyCart for the shopping cart piece, and Square for the credit card processing.
Monies changed hands to make this happen, but it’s the “cost of doing business”, so to speak. Participating in DIY culture sometimes means asking for help and using tools that are easy and available vs. having to build everything from scratch. So be it.
Anyway, thanks so much for supporting me and my work, and the work of folks in my communities.
